진화생물학은 새로운 생물이 만들어지고 환경 변화에 따라 적응해가는 원리와 기작을 탐구하는 학문입니다. 저희 연구실(Evomics lab)은 다양한 생물 종을 대상으로 각종 오믹스 기법을 포함한 첨단 기술을 활용하여 생물의 진화를 연구하고 있습니다. 세부적으로는 신경계의 진화, 발생 프로그램의 리모델링(Evo-Devo), 공생 관계의 공진화 등과 같은 흥미로운 진화 현상의 유전적 기반과 분자적 기작을 규명해나가고 있습니다.
Reseach Background |
At the Evomics Lab, our focus is on answering a fundamental question in evolutionary biology: how does natural selection construct and shape
complex biological systems? We employ cutting-edge omics tools and integrate diverse fields such as genetics, neuroscience, developmental biology,
ecology, and evolutionary biology to molecularly dissect the evolutionary processes that underlie the emergence of evolutionary novelties and
species' adaptation to changing environments.
Our research explores various model and non-model species, investgating subjects such as the origin of nervous systems, neurodevelopmental
renovation, developmental system adaptation, ecological specialization, and symbiotic multi-species coevolution. To investigate natural differences
among and within species, we use both fieldwork and laboratory experiments. Additionally, we establish experimental evolution platforms in the
laboratory to track evolutionary processes in real-time.
Our research programs aim to lay the groundwork for advancing evolutionary biology in the Omics era.
